Chamber Winds: Golden 20s: The Music of Kurt Weill
Now best known for his works for the stage, and in particular his collaboration with Brecht on the ‘Threepenny Opera’, Kurt Weill’s early work for the concert hall followed the modernist examples of Stravinsky and Schoenberg. His violin concerto was the very first to combine a string soloist with a chorus of wind instruments. This thrilling, virtuoso work is partnered by a selection of numbers from the Threepenny Opera, including that all-time classic, Mack the Knife, evoking the sights and sounds of 1920s Berlin like nobody else.
