An opportunity has arisen to join Sistema Scotland as a member of a dynamic team responsible for delivering a community-focused music programme. The successful applicant will collaborate with the Director of Music and other Curriculum Leaders to ensure best practice in the delivery and development of the Big Noise curriculum.

The role encompasses curriculum development, delivering General Musicianship (GM) sessions for children and young people at the base centre, and supporting GM colleagues at each Big Noise centre. Candidates with a wide range of experience and a commitment to social impact are encouraged to apply. A growth mindset and understanding of music’s role in developing broader social skills are essential. The ideal candidate will appreciate the significance of general musicianship in helping children excel in Big Noise orchestras and ensembles throughout the programme. Applicants with experience in anti-racist approaches or decolonising the music curriculum are particularly welcome, as are those with a global majority background.

Candidates should hold a degree or equivalent qualification and have experience working with large, diverse groups of children. A successful track record in providing music instruction to children is required, along with positive involvement in creating and developing curricula. Knowledge of current educational practice, issues concerning music, community development, or education in Scotland, and relevant pedagogical approaches is necessary.

This temporary post, intended to cover a period of maternity leave, offers between 2 and 2.5 days per week of work, year-round (3 to 4.5 days for internal candidates). The position can be based at any Big Noise centre, but travel between all four centres will be required. The salary ranges from £38,218 to £41,800 per annum (pro-rata), with all new staff starting at the lower end of the scale.
