Wáltsáil Abhaile
The play 'Wáltsáil Abhaile' is a surreal production that tells the story of Micheál Mac Liammoir, an Irish actor, director, and theatre impresario. Directed by Stephen Darcy and designed by Lulu Tam, the play is a multimedia fantasia that takes the audience on a dreamlike journey through time and space. Written by Antoine Ó Flathartha, 'Wáltsáil Abhaile' celebrates the life and work of Mac Liammoir, one of Ireland's theatre legends.
The production features a cast comprising Caitríona Ní Mhurchú, Dáithí O Donnell, Ben Morris, and Caoimhghín Ó hEoghusa. The play opens with Mac Liammoir, in the autumn of his years, stopping for a 'small pleasure' on a dark night. However, he is denied by a young Garda who escorts him home as a storm approaches.
The play is a spiritual homecoming for Mac Liammoir, who was the first artistic director of An Taibhdhearc. It is a celebration of his life and contribution to Irish theatre.
