Richard Dawson

We are delighted to welcome the one and only Richard Dawson back to Belfast, for a special solo show featuring music from his new album ‘The Ruby Chord’ alongside work from his incredible back catalogue.

Fearless in his research and willingness to follow his inspiration, Dawson has created an impressive catalogue of music and storytelling, steeped in ancient myths, contemporary dread, humour, distortion and profundity.

After recent collaborations with Finnish metal innovators Circle and his work with Hen Ogledd, the new record ‘The Ruby Cord’ is a return to Dawson’s own world with seven tracks that plunge us into an unreal, fantastical and at times sinister future world.

It follows the release of ‘Peasant’ (2017) which is set “somewhere between the years 500 and 700, after the slow withdrawal of the Roman Empire from the north east”, and 2020 (2019) a meticulous journey into the barbarism of modern life. Past, present, future.

If you’ve been in the presence of Dawson, you’ll need no convincing. If you haven’t, you are in for a treat. He is quite simply one of the most singular and affecting artists, on planet earth.

“Is there anyone quite like Richard Dawson working in the UK, or indeed anywhere, at the moment? Nobody springs to mind.” – Line of Best Fit

“His broken-down style of English folk music feels like it was beamed in from another time, each frayed blemish possessing an ornate, worn-in beauty.” – Pitchfork
