Tiny Ark and Ye Vagabonds present the premiere of Nine Waves, a new film that screens at The Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfield, Dublin, on Tuesday 21st March 2023.
Nine Waves is the visual accompaniment to the band's critically acclaimed album of the same name, which was released on Rough Trade Records' folk offshoot River Lea in May 2022. Described as “a labyrinthine treasure trove” by The Irish Times, “a beautifully heartfelt collection” by The Guardian, and “joyous” by Uncut, the album was awarded ‘Best Folk Album’ at the 2022 RTE Folk Awards, and the album track ‘Blue is the Eye’ is currently in the running for “Irish Song of the Year” at the RTE Choice Prize Music Awards.
Ye Vagabonds released no music videos in the leadup to the album release, instead opting for this longer form film that showcases each individual track on the album.
Nine Waves is a visual postcard of the sound world that the album inhabits, primarily based within a derelict building in Dublin, and on location on the island of Arranmore, off the coast of Donegal.
The film features regular collaborators Alain McFadden (All the Brave Hunters), Cormac Begley, Ryan Hargadon, and Kate Ellis and Caimin Gilmore of Crash Ensemble as guest musicians, alongside a cast of dancers Stephanie Dufresne and Cristian Enmanuel Dirocie, and Arranmore bar owner Jerry Early.
The film premieres at The Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfield, Dublin, Tuesday 21st March 2023 at 18:30. Tickets €10 are available from Eventbrite:

Ye Vagabonds play two shows at Dublin's Vicar Street on 31st March and 1st April 2023, with support from Niamh Bury.
