Production Manager, Orchestral Studies
The Juilliard School is seeking a Production Manager for its Orchestral Studies department. The Production Manager will report to the Senior Director of Performance Operations and External Venue Relations, and will be responsible for coordinating production and technical logistics for Juilliard’s orchestral and contemporary ensembles. The position also manages the inventory and maintenance of equipment and auxiliary instruments in the Orchestral Studies department.
The Production Manager will serve as the primary stage manager for all ensembles in the Orchestral Studies department, managing ensemble events, including venue preparation, setup, and stage changes in orchestral studios and performance venues. The role requires coordination of all technical details with students, conductors, ensemble managers, Orchestra Library, Recording, Public Affairs, venue staff, and others. The Production Manager will also communicate production and technical details with venue staff, manage the venue crew on site, and coordinate piano tunings for events in orchestral studios and performance venues.
The Production Manager will be responsible for conducting regular walkthroughs of orchestral studios and handling light maintenance needs or reporting them to Facilities as needed. Additionally, the Production Manager will manage special projects such as extra performances, recording sessions, interdisciplinary productions, etc. as assigned.
In terms of instrument and equipment management, the Production Manager will monitor and oversee the maintenance of the wind and brass instrument collections, manage scheduling, setup, and maintenance of electronic equipment and keyboard instruments, and ensure that equipment is properly stored and maintained.
The role will also require the Production Manager to supervise the work-study setup crew, approve biweekly timesheets, and maintain and track the budget. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, ensemble management experience (preferably in Operations/Production), and a background in music performance, performing arts education, or artistic administration. They should have knowledge of orchestral repertoire and new music, woodwind, brass, percussion, and keyboard instruments, and electronic equipment.
Other required skills include self-motivation, excellent interpersonal skills and communication (both written and oral), strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the ability to work under extreme pressure and meet strict deadlines while remaining flexible and organized.
