Loah – When I Rise Up
Having recently presented the RTÉ music programme The Heart of Saturday Night with Úna Healy, Loah has just released a new EP, When I Rise Up. The EP is the Irish and Sierra Leonean singer’s first record since This Heart, released in 2017, and is a collection of poetry from the 1920s set to music. Featuring poems by W.B. Yeats, Eva Gore-Booth, and Katharine Tynan, among others, When I Rise Up was created by Loah in direct response to our current situation. Commenting on the works, Loah said ‘while the poets I’ve chosen worked and published extensively throughout many decades, I chose to centre the series on works specifically published during the 1920s, with two exceptions. Taking the form of the folk song to bring the poems alive connects the past to the present in this most ancient means of storytelling, and certainly brings them alive for me personally’. Cherym – Hey Tori
Pop-punk trio from Derry, Cherym, today released a new EP Hey Tori on Alcopop! Records. The five-track record features previously released singles ‘Kisses On My Cards’, ‘Listening To My Head’ and ‘We’re Just Friends’ and  whirls by in a buzz of whining guitar riffs, stomping drums and light-as-air pop vocals. New tracks ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘She’s Enough Going On’ also feature on the EP. The band recently announced a series of UK tour dates for this month, performing with ARXX and Brand New Friend. Jürg Frey and Louth Contemporary Music Society – I Listened to the Wind Again
I Listened to the Wind Again by Swiss composer and clarinettist Jürg Frey is the latest release from Louth Contemporary Music Society. The work was commissioned by LCMS in 2017 and was first performed at the organisation’s festival that year in Dundalk. Composed for voice and strings, the recording features French soprano Hélène Fauchère, Carol Robinson on clarinet, Nathalie Chabot on violin, Agnès Vesterman on cello, Garth Knox on viola, and percussionist Sylvain Lemêtre. The release was recorded in Paris at Studio Sequenza and was produced by LCMS Artistic Director Eamonn Quinn. Good Shepherd – Let’s See What The East Wind Brings
Let’s See What The East Wind Brings is the new album by Good Shepherd, the recording project of Cambridgeshire-based singer-songwriter Duncan Poyser. The record was released today on Rusted Rail records and is a collection of new works along with older songs from previously-released EPs on the label, Her Darke Aspects and Ah…Good The Sea. The album of lo-fi acoustic ballads was part-inspired by Poyser’s interest in birds. Commenting on the record, he said ‘Let’s See What the East Wind Brings was recorded between 2005 and 2010 during my first experiments in multi-track recording on a Tascam 8-track. Throughout, the recordings are steeped in references to birds, an obsession since childhood. What is also evident to me now are the narratives and mantras I was using to steer myself through life at that time, a decade before a diagnosis of autism… these experiments with guitar and song become a notebook of emotional survival from a boy with a far away look in his eye, trying to connect with a lost love while navigating the tangles of humanity in a city way too big for comfort.’ Purchase the album on Bandcamp: https://bit.ly/2Y5o64i

Me Auld Flower – Electricity Comes to the Black Valley
Connemara singer and visual artist Me Auld Flower last month released a new song ‘Electricity Comes to the Black Valley’ which will feature on upcoming album The Vaults of Consciousness, Vol II: An Unholy Amount due for release on 19 November. Following his previous release ‘Fr. Griffin Avenue’, this new track was written and recorded in isolation during lockdown in 2020 and is about the beauty and simplicity of rural life. Commenting on the song, Me Auld Flower said ‘The song is about living in a faraway metropolis and being homesick for Ireland. It’s a dream of tranquility’.
