Macbeth

Sunday, 4 June 2023, 8.00pm

Ireland’s Summer Opera Festival returns with Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth – from 29 May – 4 June in Lismore, Co. Waterford.

Starring the legendary baritone Leonardo Galeazzi (BVOF 2016 Così fan tutte and 2021 Gianni Schicchi), and the exceptional Vittorio Vitelli, alternating as Macbeth; Serenad Burcu Uyar as the fiendish Lady Macbeth, and world-renowned bass Gorán Jurich as Banco.
The all-star supporting cast includes BVOF bursary winners John Porter and Rory Dunne, and Andrew Gavin. Macbeth’s creative team features the hugely talented young Irish conductor Killian Farrell, the esteemed Irish theatre and opera director, Sarah Baxter; and the brilliant Francis O’Connor – award winning set and costume designer.

The first genuine masterpiece of Giuseppe Verdi’s career – and first of his three Shakespearean operas; Macbeth is a political thriller full of intrigues, murders, and passion.

Four evening performances of this year’s opera – the headline festival event, will take place in the grounds Lismore Castle, with an additional performance of a Dress Rehearsal for Schools on Monday 29 May. The production is made possible with generous production sponsorship from the John Pollard Foundation.
