Karine Polwart

Wednesday, 21 December 2022, 8.00pm

We’re delighted to be welcoming Karine Polwart back to Live to Your Living Room for an intimate online solo gig this Midwinter. She’ll share not only her tender songs of land and flight, curiosity and care, but a sheaf of fireside folk tales too.

BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer Of The Year 2018, Karine is a multi-award winning Scottish songwriter and musician, as well as a theatre-maker, storyteller, spoken-word performer and children’s author.

Her many collaborative projects include: a duo with pianist Dave Milligan (in December last year, the pair played a gorgeous LYTR set of songs from their album ‘Still As Your Sleeping’); a longstanding trio with brother Steven Polwart and multi-instrumentalist Inge Thomson; her Scottish Songbook re-imaginings of classic Scottish pop; The Lost Words: Spell Songs, a multi-artist response to environmental loss and climate breakdown, in collaboration with visual artist Jackie Morris and writer, Robert Macfarlane; and ‘Wind Resistance’, her peatbog-inspired theatre show for The Royal Lyceum/EIF.

2021 saw both the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra commission new works, in collaboration with sound designer and composer Pippa Murphy, and in the lead up to COP26 Karine wrote ‘Enough is Enough’, a participative piece, commissioned by Oi Musica for massed voices and street bands, and performed by ensembles from Glasgow to London, and Brussels to Accra.

But this is a rare chance to experience Karine’s warm, conversational approach to performance on the darkest of nights. So grab a blanket and a cuppa and cosy in!
