Irish Women in Jazz Series: REROUTE
The Dublin Jazz Co-op has paired up with Irish Women in Jazz for this series and is proud to present ReRoute.
Often complimented on the warm and inviting atmosphere of their performances, ReRoute is a vocal and guitar duo best known for their intimate shows of lyrical, sincere music.
Brought together by a shared passion for exploring new music and a drive to learn, vocalist Rufina Tishina and guitarist Emily O’Rourke met through their mutual study of Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance in 2018. Since establishing their duo ReRoute that same year, they have performed at The Dublin Jazz Co-Op, Jazz Guide Jam Ireland and other events such as The Naas Community Fete.
Their exposed setting of only one vocalist and one guitar helps highlight the vulnerability and honesty of ReRoute’s original compositions. Drawing on their combined influences from jazz and other improvised styles of music, as well as Russian and Tatar culture, ReRoute have developed an authentic sound that is indisputably genuine to them.
Although the duo share similar influences, they both offer something different when it comes to their compositions. Tishina’s pieces often focus on lyrical storytelling and rhythmic exploration as well as carrying elements of Tatar folk music. O’Rourke’s compositions concentrate on creating atmospheres and finding meditation through the music. When it comes to writing arrangements of their favourite jazz standards, ReRoute break away from the traditional forms and find their own way to present the music.
The audience are part of each tune and are welcomed into the individual stories they represent
