H. I. P. - The Art Blakey Charts
Bray Jazz Festival returns to the Whale Theatre for 2023, with two incredible live performances featuring top class Irish and international musicians.
The music of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers - the tightly arranged horn section, the hard-swinging rhythm section, the scorching solos - is classic jazz at its most exhilarating.
The Hibernian Improvisers Pool (HIP) is a new repertory ensemble featuring some of Ireland foremost jazz musicians which has been set up specifically to explore the music of jazz’s classic period in the 1950s and 1960s. The group includes Australian saxophonist Daniel Rorke, trombonist Colm O’Hara, trumpeter Bill Blackmore, pianist Scott Flanigan, bassist Cormac O Brien and drummer Kevin Brady. Drawn from all over Ireland, together these marvellous musicians have racked up appearances with everyone from Van Morrison and Paul Brady to jazz legends like Larry Coryell and Ian Shaw.
Featuring:
Cormac O Brien | bass
