Bradford Festival Choral Society and the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra
The Bradford Festival Choral Society and the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra are joining forces for a concert in Bradford this April, featuring classical masterpieces and world-class musicians. The performance will take place on Saturday 29th at St George's Hall, one of the oldest concert halls in the UK.
The Bradford Festival Choral Society was founded after the opening of St George's Hall in 1853, while the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra was established in 1947, disbanded in 1955, and reformed after the pandemic to support first-rate northern musicians and provide a cultural voice for the north.
This collaboration renews a partnership that thrived in the 1950s and will feature the iconic masterpiece Mozart's Requiem, with vocal soloists such as soprano Lorna James, mezzo soprano Hannah Mason, tenor Joseph Doody, and bass James Creswell.
David Greed, one of the country's leading violinists, will be the orchestral lead for the night. The concert programme will also include Handel's Zadok the Priest, The King Shall Rejoice, and Edward Elgar's Introduction and Allegro.
St George's Hall is a grade II listed Victorian building with seating for over 1,500, renowned for its exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere.
The concert in Bradford showcases the city's rise towards the 2025 City of Culture year, highlighting the importance of creating national-level art locally. The partnership between the Bradford Festival Choral Society and the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra will provide a vital contribution to achieving this goal.
