Arts Council Announces Over €50m in Strategic Funding for 2023
The Arts Council has announced its 2023 decisions for the Strategic Funding programme, which supports key infrastructure in the arts in Ireland.
A total of €50,475,572 has been allocated to 107 organisations including a number of music, opera and traditional arts organisations.
Among the recipients are Irish National Opera, which has received an increase of €500,000 (11%) to bring its funding for 2023 to €4,991,312, which includes €220,000 for touring.
Wexford Festival Opera has received €1,680,000, an increase of €45,000 (3%).
In the Music category, there were repeat grants for all organisations including Irish Chamber Orchestra (€1,241,800), Music Network (€670,000), Chamber Choir Ireland (€625,000), West Cork Music (€445,000), Contemporary Music Centre (€415,000), Irish Baroque Orchestra (€340,000), Sing Ireland (€315,000), Crash Ensemble (€310,000), Improvised Music Company (€303,200), New Music Dublin (€260,000), First Music Contact (€210,000), and the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland (€65,000).
In the Traditional Arts category, the Irish Traditional Music Archive received €978,500, which includes €28,500 for touring. The overall figure is slightly below its total of €980,000 for last year. Na Píobairí Uilleann received €520,000, which is a repeat of its 2022 funding; Harp Ireland/Cruit Éireann received €145,000, an increase of €45,000 (45%); Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy received €125,000, an increase of €25,000 (25%); and Cairdeas na bhFidiléirí received a repeat grant of €50,000 plus an additional €1,500 for touring.
Commenting on the funding, Maureen Kennelly, Director of the Arts Council, said:
These decisions will enable people of all ages and from all backgrounds to experience the very best of the arts. Following significantly increased investment in recent years, these funding commitments will consolidate the position of these critically important organisations.
