AIC-CMC Annual Irish soundSCAPE Residency

Monday, 28 January 2013 (All day)

The Association of Irish Composers and the Contemporary Music Centre are delighted to announce the launch a new artistic residency with the soundSCAPE Festival in Italy. The residency will be awarded each year to an Irish composer or performer of contemporary music.

soundSCAPE is a contemporary music festival and summer school which takes place over two weeks each year in the beautiful town of Maccagno in the Italian Alps. The festival features daily concerts and seminars from faculty, students and guest artists. Students of the summer school receive regular one-to-one tuition in contemporary music performance and composition. Most importantly, artists from all over the world meet to exchange ideas and become part of a growing international network of composers and performers. In 2013, the festival will take place from 30th June – 13th July.

The recipient of the Irish Residency will be provided with flights to Italy and 3-4 nights’ accommodation at Casa Emmaus in Maccagno. They will also receive a small stipend to cover daily expenses. The selected artist will be invited to curate/perform a concert of contemporary Irish music at the festival and to give a talk/workshop/masterclass on their work. They will also be expected to contribute to the lively discussions in the festival’s daily symposia.

Interested artists should e-mail [email protected] with their CV and proposals for a one-hour concert of contemporary Irish music (for solo instrument or small ensemble), and a related one-hour seminar/masterclass. The instruments available are piano, flute, guitar, violin, percussion and voice (at least one of each is available). Performers can of course bring their own instrument as well. Composers should include their own work in the programme, and proposals featuring the composition of a new work to be premiered at the festival will be especially welcome. soundSCAPE is open to all musical aesthetics. Proposals should offer some degree of flexibility in order to accommodate any changes that may arise when the final festival line-up is confirmed (E.g. in terms of the number of pieces in the concert, or the specific percussion requirements, etc). The deadline for proposals is 5pm, Monday 28th January. Submissions will be assessed by a combined panel from the AIC, CMC and soundSCAPE. The selected artist will be announced in early February.
